Women in Weed, you gotta love ’em! I have some MAJOR girl crushes going since diving into the cannabis wellness space and I’m creating a fun series to honor them. Allow me to hit ya with the back story and why I feel so compelled to start this segment of #WCW! Weed Crush Wednesday inspired by badass lady trailblazers and how they stand up to share in this space.

Do you ever just look at a ‘stranger’ and get super curious about their life story? Maybe it was a subtle sweet tone in their voice or perhaps a nostalgic familiarity in the way they dressed that you noticed.

This happens to me, except….with everyone. You don’t even have to be of the human species, actually.

I like to think of it as curious and intuitive rather than nosy and intrusive but no matter what adjective you slap on there, I’m all about story time.

I absolutely adore hearing where people come from, their struggles, hopes, dreams or stories of their crazy uncles. It’s all fair game, in my humble opinion. We all have such a unique pair of lenses we are viewing the world through, a unique experience and knowing to share.

The Importance of Conversation

The combination of our stories make our community

Which takes part in shaping our culture…

and creating our norms…

Which influences our behaviors…

and molds our attitudes…

Stop me now, I really nerd out about this stuff.

Stories are about collaboration and communication- they engage us with our emotions and connect us to others. We share meaning and purpose, overcoming our defenses and differences. Absorbing other people’s essence through their history is so powerful. and it makes me so happy to see that many people and brands in the cannabis community are stepping into vulnerability. This has such an impactful message, fostering connection and encouraging empathy. And I totally jive with this stuff.

Enter: #WCW, my own little way of fostering community. I’ve always said, if you think something nice of someone, let it out. So here it is!

My first ever Weed Crush Wednesday goes to Simple Jane, a mother daughter duo encouraging sexy simplicity and self care with their herbally enhanced wellness line. They inspired me to start this series in the first place with their generosity and selflessness, even never having met them.

*crosses fingers* One day!!

Women in Weed: Here’s my Simple Jane Story

Simple Jane initiated a Call to Action on their instagram one day that I couldn’t ignore. I had only just stepped into the cannabis industry at the time and was wide eyed and eager to find my tribe in this healing and welcoming space of lady blazers. The ladies of Simple Jane announced that anyone that they’d send a free sample of a new self care product launch to anyone willing to simply get active and enjoy their Saturday outdoors. Perform self care and get rewarded with more self care?

Sign me up, baby!

It was a particularly sunny day so I did just that. And they held up their end of the deal which meant my sister was getting a lovely little pick-me-up in the form of a yummy bath night! She was going through a particularly rough time AND I had recently moved to Europe. I didn’t want to inconvenience the ladies of Simple Jane with a hefty international shipping fee so the clear choice was to send it to her in Florida.

When I told Simple Jane about my sister needing this pick-me-up more than I did at the time, they completely opened their hearts to me and offered to include a handwritten note. If you can’t tell by now, I’m a bit long winded. And this note was no different in all of its 6 pages of supportive I love yous.

My sister had no idea the package was coming. When it arrived it met her in a moment of desperation -she was completely beside herself. It had come at the perfect time. As she read the note that Simple Jane went soooo totally above and beyond to include, tears streamed down her face.

A little CBD mixed with love

Simple Jane was that vessel of love for me. For us. They saw where a little light needed to be let in and they did something about it. They practiced empathy, the biggest turn on in the world to me! (Random side note: In order to do this, you have to step into vulnerability because you have to open yourself up enough to hear and sit with the pain of another. It’s difficult but oh so rewarding and Brene Brown has an incredibly insightful quick video explanation on empathy here.

These beauties didn’t expect anything in return. They didn’t know I’d be gushing and gooing over this because I am a feeeeeeler, yall. Maybe this seems trivial, but I will never forget the raw emotion from my sister’s face. In that moment, I could tell that she felt understood. That her story was being seen and heard, and that she matters. Oh boy, does she matter.

When I gathered the confidence (is that what it’s called?) to host my first giveaway on instagram, I immediately reached out to them, knowing full well that this was the kind of brand I could stand behind. A brand with products and a message that make me feel empowered by my femininity. THE self care companion. If you’re due for a self care tune up (*ahem, this should be daily in some form or another*), I highly recommend you checking out what these ladies have to offer.

I am now an active creator in the community of women and weed! I will forever be thankful for them, because without them even knowing me personally, they welcomed me into the cannabis space in the warmest possible way. Our stories matter, and by fostering community and encouraging connection, Simple Jane inspired me to share mine.
